AIA Honors FKP for Exemplary IDP
June 8, 2010
FKP Architects has been recognized among the American Institute of Architects (AIA) 2010-2013 Intern Development Program (IDP) Firm Awards recipients. Bestowed by the organization’s IDP Advisory Committee, the IDP Firm Awards are part of the AIA’s IDP Outstanding Firm Awards Program which honors firms for program excellence and dedication.
FKP is being recognized for its exemplary educational programs developed specifically for intern development. The firm’s superior IDP includes not only top-down learning, but also encourages interns to experience virtual training and present the outcomes to the firm. The program also incorporates a mentor program to guide interns through the NCARB process and the various specializations within the profession.
“This accomplishment would not have been possible without the commitment of the entire firm. FKP places high value on education, striving to provide a top-notch IDP and an exceptional range of on-going learning opportunities for the entire staff,” commented Theadus McClain, CMP, Director of Training and Development at FKP Architects. “We are extremely honored to receive this recognition. It confirms we have set an excellent foundation for a strong future of learning within the firm.”
About the AIA IDP Program
For over 150 years, members of the AIA have worked with each other and their communities to create more valuable, healthy, secure and sustainable buildings and cityscapes. The organization’s Intern Development Program started in 1976 as a pilot program developed by the AIA and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards to ensure the continued support of interns by the changing profession of architecture. IDP is a profession-wide, comprehensive training program that is focused on the professional development of architectural interns. Through a series of required activities, IDP enables participants to acquire knowledge, understanding and skills that form the core competencies related to successful architectural practice. IDP is structured in a way that effectively responds to the training needs of architectural interns by providing a wide range of resources, established progressive benchmarks, advice and mentor guidance throughout the extensive internship process.
