Construction Begins on Beijing Women's and Children's Hospital
March 8, 2011
Construction began last week on the New Century International Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Beijing, China, now scheduled to open in late 2011. The Lakeview Park project marks the prolific hospital system’s first women’s hospital and second pediatric clinic and hospital.
FKP Architects was invited to provide site planning, design, programming and planning for the 9,000-square-meter facility. Situated in a lush park setting, the design combines the rich tradition of the peaceful Chinese culture with the advanced model of care delivery from the West. FKP designed the new hospital to capture a segment of the Chinese patient care market that seeks private services for health care separate from the public hospital system. The facility will feature a family-centered care environment with sophisticated color palettes, advanced medical technology and experienced staff to provide excellent care.
“We are honored to be involved in this project,” stated FKP Architects’ President and CEO John S. Crane, AIA, ACHA. “It is gratifying to have the opportunity to apply our health care expertise to a hospital in China that will focus on changing the level of care available in the region,” Crane concluded.
