The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center
Outpatient Building
BACKGROUND:
Revitalizing the clinical campus at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center has become a successful mission for the University. Beyond meeting its immediate needs, the institution saw the potential for a brown-field development that would create a win-win opportunity for the City of Dallas.
CHALLENGE:
After completing a comprehensive, five-phase master plan to transform the obsolete hospital campus, FKP turned attention to the first building for the new site. It needed to embody the goals of the institution while opening its arms and providing much needed health care services to the community.
TRANSFORMATION:
The design provides a contemporary image balanced with inviting healing garden settings. It represents new age large group practice planning that stresses modularity, flexibility and operational efficiency. As departments evolve, generic treatment rooms and the modular plan offer easy conversion and interchangeability of functions.
