BACKGROUND:
A transformation partner with DCH for more than 20 years, FKP and DCH came together to redefine cancer care with a facility that would focus not only on a patient’s disease, but also on the spirit and well-being of the family.
STRATEGY:
In addition to incorporating the latest treatment advancements, FKP sought to harness the healing power of nature. The design synthesizes the nautilus form, symbolizing renewal, rebirth and infinite life. This symbolism is carried throughout, expressed in the undulating curves of the façade, gardens, pathways and light-filled spaces.
TRANSFORMATION:
The facility creates a new image for DCH that celebrates a message of hope and brings world-class cancer care closer to home for West Alabama residents. Completing the body, mind and spirit healing circle, amenities – such as a wellness center, art therapy and a resource center - support an outcome-enhancing, family-centered care philosophy.
