The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center

Mitchell Research Building

BACKGROUND:
MD Anderson's Texas Medical Center Research Campus grew out of extended discussions with Baylor College of Medicine and The University of Texas Health Science Center. They envisioned an integrated campus to facilitate the crucial exchange of ideas necessary to propel breakthroughs.

CHALLENGE:
An institution's ability to obtain grants and conduct sophisticated research requires specialized facilities that are adaptable. MD Anderson's highly productive research program had reached a limit in its current facilities. Analysis revealed the most efficient approach would be a new building.

TRANSFORMATION:
This multi-institutional facility is home to one of the world's largest concentrations of biomedical research. Optimizing flexibility with a modular design, the building supports ongoing cancer research programs, particularly in the fields of immunology, molecular biology and human cancer genetics.
