Cancer Prevention Building

BACKGROUND:
As part of their Legacy Campus, MD Anderson wanted to create a unique facility to support the growth of the institution’s clinical programs. This building would bring together the departments of Clinical Cancer Prevention, Behavioral Science and Epidemiology and the Cancer Prevention Center.

CHALLENGE:
The building was designed concurrently with the Mays Clinic using a fast-tracked approach. FKP led strategic programming to address the challenges of consolidating services, expanding capacity and building efficiency of throughput. The goal was to improve clinic/diagnostic capabilities while enhancing the patient and staff experience.

TRANSFORMATION:
The CPB was designed with a forward focus. Spaces were created to optimize consumer education, medical screening and clinical monitoring of precancerous conditions. The facility provides offices for epidemiology, biostatistics and behavior modification — as well as a large multi-media conference center.
